Drill Weekend Talking Points
February 2017

2017 Legislative Workshop

The EANGUS National Office is excited to host members from all around the country for the 2017 Legislative Workshop. We have a great event planned for this year to include guest speakers, receptions, and breakout sessions. We have something planned for everyone: first timers and long-time attendees. Our culminating event will be a Reception and Awards Ceremony in the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s Large Hearing room, located in the Rayburn House Office Building. We expect a large crowd, to include DOD officials, Senators, Representatives, and lots of Congressional staff.

Additionally, there will robust policy and strategy discussions as look ahead to the new Administration and 115th Congress. The National Office staff prepared talking points and policy papers to inform EANGUS members’ discussions on Capitol Hill. Those handouts are hyperlinked at the bottom of this email. If you were unable to attend this year, we hope that you will consider joining us in Washington, D.C. next February for the 2018 Workshop!

Blended Retirement System: Educating the Force

The Department of Defense recently distributed another round of guidance and education services to prepare currently serving members about whether to remain in the legacy (i.e. 20-year) retirement system, or opt-in to the blended retirement system. Training for members who wish to opt-in must take an online training course, scheduled to begin January 31, 2017. Additional information and updates can be found on the Military OneSource website soon, please click here. If you are interested in the new retirement plan, the blended retirement system will begin January 2018. EANGUS will continue to update members and keep you informed of the coming changes. Reminder: All currently serving are grandfathered into the legacy retirement system*
